"I, KJ Smith am very honored to have many great friends. I sure hope to meet you someday, but if our trails don't cross, May The Good Lord take a liking to you."

I'm a working cowboy, and I like to think that my whips are built as if my granddaddy was going to use it and be proud. They are made of nylon parachute cord, but look like leather. They have leaded core centers, 18 plait over that, dyed and dipped in bees' wax. The whips are all handmade by me and if something is handcrafted each and everyone are different in some way, therefore making it "one of a kind." They each have the date and initials branded on the handle. The handles are also handmade with a lathe, and several different kinds of wood. These whips are made to be endurable and can be used daily by a working cowboy. Passed down through generations, they become a family heirloom.
Up to this day, my whips have been sold through word of mouth only and that has made me very proud. Hope to meet you on the trails and be able to shake your hand, sit by the fire, and share a story or two.
If you don't know where you've been, you really can't know where you are going. Roots run very deep.Seeing a whip on a cowboy or cowgirl's saddle says a lot about a person. When I see you with one of my whips you will be considered my friend and hope that you will also consider me your friend.
The first of the Smith Family to make a cowwhip was my paternal granddaddy. My paternal grandmother was full blooded Cherokee Indian. We have been in the cattle industry dating back to the 1900's. My wife's family, the Costine's, and my family still are running cattle today.

The Cowhunter logo stands for Honor, Friendship, and Hospitality. You are always welcome at my camp.
Our motto is "The Cowboy Way is not the Easy Way."I do not make colored whips because working cowboys and cowgirls never had the desire for one.
